In
45 km hardly along N109 on the West of Montpelier,
discover the surprising landscapes of the borders
of the lake of Salagou. This lake was created in the
sixties, the initial project tended to offer to the
farmers a pond of irrigation so allowing a diversification
of the cultures in the region until then dedicated
to the vine growing in overproduction in these years
there...
The project began in 1959 on the paper and ended ten
years later with the flood of the pond of Salagou
and the creation of the lake!
Today,
the lake of Salagou offers especially a surprising
place of interest
A
surprising and complete place of interest with
places of bathing, hikes, activities of aquatic
sports, varied accommodations and especially
wild landscapes among which the variety and
the peculiarity make of this valley one of the
big natural resources of the Hérault.
What is quite obvious when we approach the banks
of Salagou, it is the red color incredible
of the ground. It is due to the presence of
a rock (Specificity of the pond of Salagou)
called Ruffe, this one is extremely rich in
iron oxides which bring it this red color. This
rock appeared on the scene to the end of the
primary era there is more than two hundred million
years.
The
village of Celles
If
you follow the exit 55 of A75 in the direction
of the lake of Salagou, you can either
follow this direction or take the direction
of Octon, when you will look the lake follow
the small road on the left indicating Celles
and discover this small hamlet abandoned for
the creation of the lake.
It is just situated on the banks of the lake
and its houses in ruffe typical of the region
will enchant you with the beauty of the contrasts
of them stones. This small hamlet explodes in
the middle of the yellow grasses of the banks
of the lake, and its just situation at the edge
of the water in fact a place privileged to organize
outdoor entertainements. The village is also
a place of departure privileged to begin one
littele hike around the lake. You can park your
car near the village, to cross then the hamlet
to appreciate the particular charm of houses
then you continue along the banks of the lake
to discover this artificial lake which remains
however a place of wild nature and grand landscapes.
The court of the school of the village is thus
in any logic used for concerts, secondhand trades
during summer then do not hesitate to come to
dance in the edges of the banks of the lake
in this magnificent village of red stones. You
can naturally come to visit it the day and to
take advantage of it to swim because the lake
is particularly pleasant near Celles (see photos
above) because the relief offers small beaches
to the swimmers.
