 Olargues
It is in the XIth century when we find the first tracks
of a house on the site. Buildings situated on the
ledge are the vestiges of constructions made during
the Middle Ages. The castle dates the twelfth century,
contrary to the church which will be built at least
a century later. The village developed little by little
around the castle and around the church so occupying
the sides of the mountain. The very beautiful bridge
of the devil overhangs the river Jaur which passes
by peacefully in the feet of the village.
Down from the village you can
admire the sight on Caroux which dominates the village
on the other side of Jaur. The bridge of the devil
dates the beginning of the 13th century, quite stone,
it offers one global sight of the village and the
Jaur. As all the medieval villages, Olargues possess
a maze of small alleys paved at the ancient houses
with flowery balconies. Thus beyond monuments Olargues
deserve a small visit on foot by being allowed go
according to alleys to discover all the mysteries.
Olargues was listed as classified site and was registered
on the national inventory of sites. A Museum of the
Arts and popular Traditions is situated in the center
of the village, in the famous staircase of the commanderie,
above the chapel St Etienne (church hung on the castle).
