The
Wines of "Coteaux du Languedoc"
The AOC Coteaux du Languedoc exists since 1985. The
principal type of vines for the red and the rosé
one are Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre (5% minis)
as well as Cinsault and Carignan. For the white, the
type of vines used are Grenache, Clairette, Bourboulenc,
Picpoul, Roussanne, Marsanne and Rolle. For the soil
Picpoul de Pinet: 100% Piquepoul.
Coteaux du Languedoc benefits from the sunny climate
of Herault.The Wet periods during the autumn and spring
and the great dryness during the summer are attenuated
by the many hydraulic resources of the soil. This climate
is perfectly fitted to the culture of the vine from
which the vine growers of Coteaux du Languedoc. They
know how to use all the richness of ground to grow the
richest grapes.
Under this label you will find wines produced in the
area between Nimes and Narbonne. These are presented
under the name of three vintages (Saint Chinian, Faugères
or Pale of Languedoc) or of Coteaux du Languedoc employed
on its own or followed by a the name of the soil (twelve
on the whole including Cabrières, Clape, Méjanelle,
Montpeyroux, Picpoul de Pinet, Pic Saint Loup, Quatourze,
Saint Christol, Saint Drezery, Saint Georges d'Orques,
Saint Saturnin and Verargues). Each soil has a very
strong identity but one finds in all these wines a feeling
of flexibility and freshness which makes them a true
invitation to enjoy every meal.
